3. If my son does not attend an Alter feeder school, may he play for SDK?
Yes, this is open to all boys in grades 3-8; however, boys attending Incarnation, St. Charles, St. Albert The Great, and Bishop Leibold will receive priority during the selection process. Please note: For 7th/8th grade, OHSAA rules prohibit boys at public schools from playing for their school team and SDK during the regular season.
4. How many teams will the SDK program have for each grade?
Typically, SDK will have two teams (8-9 boys per team) per grade for grades 3 through 6 and one team per grade for grades 7 and 8. We will add teams from there based on turnout, talent and coach availability.
5. Will teams change from year to year?
Yes and previous players have no advantage over other players. In some cases, a previous player's performance history is taken into consideration.
Also, the Alter High School basketball staff wants to express that SDK players do not have an advantage over other players when trying out for the high school teams.
6. Who will evaluate my son during tryouts?
A group of SDK coaches from previous years will perform the evaluations. No coach will evaluate the grade that he will be coaching for the upcoming year. Many of these coaches have extensive basketball backgrounds and collegiate experience.
7. How will I find out if my child makes a team?
For boys that make a team, parents will be called early in the week following the last day of tryouts informing them which team their son made. Parents are expected to make a decision on the spot as to whether or not they wish to accept the offer - We do this so that we can form teams in a timely manner. If a parent declines the offer, this enables our club to invite another child. We ask that you PLEASE WAIT TO INFORM YOUR CHILD OF HIS TEAM UNTIL WEDNESDAY EVENING when all teams are finalized.
8. Who will coach the teams?
SDK utilizes parent coaches for grades 3-6 and non-parent coaches for grades 7-8. We take great pride in our coaching staff and ensure they have the proper tools to be successful. Most of our coaches have extensive backgrounds playing basketball and are required to attend a coaching clinic prior to the season.

13. Is there any affiliation to Alter High School?

Not directly, but Alter's administration is updated on the policies/planning of the program and aid in obtaining gym time for practices and games. SDK may use an Alter facility on occasion and SDK teams will wear brown/gold. In addition, SDK coaches have an open invitation to engage the Alter coaching staff for information, questions, suggestions, etc. With those minor exceptions, the SDKBC is managed completely independent of Alter High School.
14. Is the SDKBC insured?
Yes. We also require each player's family to carry their own medical insurance.
SDK coverage includes: Medical payments for participants up to $25,000. This coverage pays for the medical and dental expenses incurred by a participant when an accidental injury occurs while participating in covered sports activities. The coverage is provided on an excess basis, responding after all other medical coverage available to the participant has been exhausted. If no other medical coverage exists, the coverage becomes primary. A $100 deductible applies to each claim, and the benefit period is two years from the date of the accident. Also, general liability coverage for up to $3,000,000 - which protects the organization against liability claims for bodily injury and property damage arising out of premises, operations, products, and completed operations.
