To Parents
of Potential Players,
Thank you for allowing your
child to try out for the
Tryouts: Your
child is being evaluated by a team of unbiased, experienced, former players and
coaches. Please be patient as SDK needs to contact each family and create
rosters for the City League and Metro League teams. If your
child does not make a team, please encourage him to try out next year as the
makeup of each and every team will change as players develop.
Notification: Parents
will be notified either Monday or Tuesday via a phone call and will be expected
to make their decision during that phone call. If you decline your child’s spot on the
city or metro team, this allows our club to ask another boy. Please be considerate of this. Also, if you are notified on Monday, please
wait until Tuesday night before telling your son so we have enough time to
notify other parents. By mid-week, the
process should be complete and rosters posted on the web.
Teams:
There will be a minimum of two teams per grade in (3rd,4th,5th,6th grade) Division
1 teams will play in the City League, Division 2 teams will play in the Metro
League.
Practices: The
schedules are difficult to explain in this handout, but we can tell you,
according to our philosophy, SDK will make every effort not to conflict with
CYO. With that in mind, most of our
practices are scheduled on Fridays. (with exception of third grade-no CYO) There will likely be additional practices
before games begin on Dec.5. Your coach
will hold a team meeting to discuss this and other issues.
CYO
As
previously stated, SDK supports the CYO program. While most boys play CYO and
SDK, it is not mandatory.
Fees: Your
fees--($225) can be paid by cash or check, made out to South Dayton Knights
Basketball Club. SDK will hold a jersey
fitting/meet the coach night where you can pay fees in full.
Uniforms: The cost
of uniforms is too high for the club to allow players to keep them each
year. If your child should lose any part
of his uniform, you must purchase a replacement.
Involvement: Parents will be required to take turns
working the gate at home basketball games to collect entrance fees as is the
practice for all City and Metro League games.
Each team will need a parent representative to help with communication
as well as set-up for home games. Please
let your coach know at the team meeting if you can be your child’s team
rep.
Coaches
Once
teams have been established, coaches will be determined.
Playing Time and Positions: This is
a select basketball club. It is
important to understand that the amount of playing time your son receives is
not guaranteed. Your son may see more
playing time in certain games. Your son
may not play the position you think he should play or that he has played on
past teams. These decisions will be
determined by the coach.
Thank you
for allowing your son to try out for the
