7th and 8th grade tryouts---Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 at South Metro Sports (both grades from 6pm-7:30pm)
**SDK recommends that a player attend both tryout dates to allow for sufficient evaluation.
***Registration form must be signed along with $10 fee (each player will receive a knights t-shirt)
To Parents of Potential Players,
Thank you
for allowing your child to try out for the
Tryouts: Your child is being evaluated by a team of unbiased, experienced, former players and coaches. If your child has been chosen to play on a SDK team, check the website in a few days for ‘08/’09 team rosters.
Please be patient as SDK needs to contact each family and create rosters for Div. 1 and Div. 2 teams.
If your child does not make a team, please
encourage him to try out next year as the makeup of each and every team will
change as players develop.
Practices: The
schedules are difficult to explain in this letter, but we can tell you,
according to our philosophy, SDK will make every effort not conflict with CYO. With that in mind, most of our practices are
scheduled on Fridays. (with exception of third grade since CYO doesn’t start
until 4th ) There will likely be additional practices before games
begin on Dec. 1. Your coach will hold a
team meeting to discuss this and other issues.
Games: Both A
and B SDK (3rd,4th,5th,6th grade)
teams will be playing in the Dayton Metro league. “A” teams will be
playing approximately 30 games, including tournaments. The B-teams will
be playing approximately 20 games with tournaments to be determined by coaches
and parents.
Fees: Your
fees can be paid by cash or check, made out to South Dayton Knights Basketball
Club and paid in full prior to your first practice. Gym rental for games, practice times, referee
fees and insurance are just a few of the overhead costs for any basketball
Club. SDK fees,
while they still do not cover all club costs, are among the lowest in the area.
Uniforms: The cost
of uniforms is too high for the club to
allow players to keep them each year. If your child should lose any part of his
uniform, you must purchase a replacement.
Involvement: Parents will be required to take turns
working the gate at home basketball games to collect
entrance fees as is the practice for all Metro games. Each team will need a parent representative
to help with communications as well as set-up for home games. Please let your coach know at the team
meeting if you can be your child’s team rep.
Playing
Time and Positions: This is a select basketball club. It is important to understand that the amount
of playing time your son receives is not guaranteed. Your son may see more playing time in certain
games. Your son may not play the position you think
he should play or that he has played on past teams. These decisions will be determined by the
coach.
